Tuning Fork in Water

Matt Kuchta has an AWESOME vimeo collection of videos shot with a high-speed camera.  At least, I’m assuming it’s awesome.  I’ve only watched three of them (Popping Water Balloons, Candle Burning Underwater, and Tuning Fork in Water) and was blown away by all three.

Here’s the one I’m interested in today:

Tuning Fork in Water from Matt Kuchta on Vimeo.

Students:

  • What do you notice in this video?
  • What does it make you wonder?
  • If we had a high-speed camera, what would you use it for?

By the way, on the vimeo site you can find out the frequency of the tuning fork (255 Hz) and the frame rate of the camera (2000 frames per second!!).  Could you figure out anything else from these numbers?
